Sunday 14 December 2025 Advent: A season of hope and reflection We can only see a short distance ahead, but we can see plenty there that needs to be done. Alan Turing As the days grow shorter and the mornings colder, we find ourselves entering the season of Advent - a time of anticipation, reflection, and hope. In schools and homes alike, Advent invites us to pause amid the busyness and prepare our hearts as well as our minds. Last weekend the choristers and choral scholars took part in the Advent services – ‘Darkness into Light'. These involve the cathedral starting in darkness and anticipation and gradually hundreds of candles are lit as the choir process and sing the beautiful music of the advent season.

Saturday 13 December 2025 Carol singing at Bowbrook Care Home Recently, Year 2 helped raise the spirits of the residents at Bowbrook Care Home. They sang a wonderful collection of festive songs and some old classics. I was so proud of all the children. There were smiles all round and their behaviour was exemplary.

Shyness, fear of making mistakes, or simply not having enough opportunities to speak up, can create barriers that affect more than just conversation. These challenges can influence a child's self-esteem, their ability to build friendships, and even their academic success.

Thursday 11 December 2025 U14 Girls' Hockey vs NULS Our U14 girls put in a fantastic team performance yesterday against Newcastle Under Lyme School, with a mixed squad featuring players from Years 7, 8 and 9 - several of whom were playing 11-a-side hockey for the very first time. Captained confidently by Millie, the girls started strongly and immediately took control of the game.

Tuesday 9 December 2025 Poetry competition winners unveiled Earlier in November we held a poetry competition following on from our wonderful poetry workshops with Daniel Thompson for World Poetry Day. I was delighted by the response we had and the poetry was so good, it was hard to choose a winner.

Saturday 6 December 2025 U13 Tennis at the National Tennis Centre U13 tennis team - consisting of Teddy, Harvey, Callum, and Alex - travelled to Nottingham to compete in the regional finals of the LTA Youth Schools Competition recently. After a strong league stage, the boys secured their place in the finals through skill, determination, teamwork, and commitment.

Thursday 4 December 2025 U18 Netball - Girls Our U18 girls travelled to face Dixie Grammar in what was their very first outing together, having never trained or played as a team before. Despite the unfamiliar line-up, the squad - captained confidently by Molly D - showed excellent determination and teamwork throughout.
