Huw has extensive experience of leadership and management in Church of England schools having been principal of three secondary schools from 1998 to 2010, his last substantive appointment judged outstanding by Ofsted and SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) denominational inspectors. Previously he was Head of Religious Studies at Carre’s Grammar School, Sleaford and The King’s School, Peterborough, where he was also Assistant Housemaster of the school’s boarding house. He is currently Assistant to the Diocesan Director of Education of the diocese of Lichfield, working with Church schools in Ofsted categories of concern to ensure progress and stability before becoming academies. He chairs Interim Executive Boards (IEB) in such schools prior to further inspection and handing over to local governing bodies.
Within the Church of England Central Education Trust (CECET) Huw works as an improvement advisor and Church school distinctiveness advisor to nominated diocesan schools. Huw is also an Ofsted inspector who currently leads Section 5 inspections in the West Midlands region. He is a SIAMS denominational inspector having worked in the dioceses of Lichfield, Southwell, Hereford, Worcester and Birmingham. He is also SIAMS manager and the QA critical reader for the Lichfield diocese. Huw has permission to officiate in the dioceses of Lichfield and St David’s.
As a hobby, Huw shows and judges Labrador Retrievers and Cardigan Welsh Corgis to championship standard.
