Choral Workshops

We are delighted to offer Choral Workshops for boys and girls currently in Years 2-5 who are interested in becoming a Cathedral Chorister.

Next workshop

The next Choral Workshop will be held in January 2026.  It is aimed at children currently in Years 2, 3, 4 or 5 who are keen to become a Cathedral Chorister.  Included will be expert tuition on choral singing and the opportunity to sing with the Lichfield Cathedral Choir during Evensong.  Limited to 60 children only.  To be kept informed about this workshop, email the Admissions team.

Be A Chorister For A Day

Be A Chorister For A Day (also known as BACFAD) is aimed at introducing children to life as a Chorister. 

• Children learning choral works and hymns, with tuition provided by the Director of Music of Lichfield Cathedral and professional singing specialists with many years of experience in teaching.
• The chance to find out about life as a Cathedral Chorister from the Choristers themselves.
• Refreshments and lunch included.
• A short session for parents to learn about the commitment involved in being a Cathedral Chorister, the benefits of attending Lichfield Cathedral School and the choral pathways available to children up to and including choral scholarships at university.
• A short service involving the children that parents are invited to attend in Lichfield Cathedral.

Don't want to wait for a workshop?

Ben Lamb, the Director of Music at Lichfield Cathedral, is happy to listen to children at any time of the year as an informal audition. If there are places available in the Choir, a successful audition could lead to a place being offered either immediately or for the start of the next academic year. If there are no places currently available, Mr Lamb will provide advice for developing a child's voice, including recommending local choirs to join.
