Recent Developments

Design & Technology Suite

In September 2024, the renovations on our new Design & Technology Suite were completed and pupils began using the new equipment.  Where previously Design & Technology was delivered in several different teaching areas, now students of the different DT disciplines have been brought together in a single dedicated space.  Prototype design and building, 3D printing, computer-aided design and textiles share a creative space specifically designed to meet their needs and inspire their imaginations.

Designing and making is the core of D&T, where students explore and respond to authentic design context and create an artefact or new approach.  Students are taught the knowledge, understanding and technical skills, including how to apply Mathematics and Science concepts to practical projects, needed to engage in an iterative process of designing and making.

Ultimately, they learn how to use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.  This helps them to develop transferable skills valuable to other subjects and all aspects of their lives:

  • Communication
  • Working in teams and under own initiative
  • Presentation and negotiating skills
  • Experience and competence in complex problem solving
  • Use their developing knowledge and skills in a creative and purposeful way
  • Making informed judgements
  • Take responsibility for the form and direction of their work and modify their work in the light of personal reflection
  • Handling uncertainty

As a Choir School, our early foundations were firmly rooted in the performing arts, which have blossomed to include instrumental music, drama, dance, public speaking and poetry performance.  The benefits of engaging in the arts extend far beyond the stage, providing transformative experiences for pupils and students.
