Results & Destinations

As a non-selective school, we cater for a wide range of academic abilities, from those who are gifted to students with learning challenges. We work with each student individually to ensure they reach their maximum potential and help them to progress to the next stage in their life, whether in higher education at university, into an apprenticeship or into employment. And we are delighted to say that every student who wanted to continue studying was offered a place on the course of their choice.

Exam results are only part of the equation – universities and employers are looking for more than A Level grades, and our students have what they want, namely interpersonal skills such as excellent communication, teamwork and leadership, combined with a good attitude towards working hard and being self-disciplined. Our students gain these skills and abilities through the many opportunities they are offered within School and activities they undertake inside and beyond the classroom from Nursery all the way through to Year 13.

Top 10% nationally for valued added at A Level

Value added is a measure of progress.  It is the difference between the expected grade from a student's baseline assessment score at the beginning of their course and the grade they actually achieved.  So, rather than simply relying on measures of how many students have achieved A* and A grades, value added is a fairer way to measure how far a student has come, how much more they have achieved by benefitting from all that their school has to offer.  Based on their initial assessment, a student may be predicted to achieve a C grade; if they achieve an A, the improvement between the predicted and actual grades is the value the school has added.

All schools hope to improve their students' grades.  This is affected by the quality of teaching, the availability of resources, the amount and type of support each student receives, the effort they put into their learning, and so on.  By achieving a position in the top 10% of schools in England, we have demonstrated that our students make exceptional progress and achieve far higher grades than expected.

Our students leave LCS well-prepared to embark on the next stage of their education. Many now head to their first-choice for higher education, including Oxbridge and Russell Group universities such as Cardiff, Imperial College London and the Universities of Birmingham, Bristol, Durham, Exeter, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Sheffield, Warwick and York.

LCS students go on to study a wide variety of degrees ranging from Medicine to Aerospace Engineering, Languages to Law, Geography to Architecture, Natural Sciences to Astrophysics, and from Mathematics to Music. Others will take a specialised route onto courses designed to support their career aspirations, such as Land Management, Equine Studies, Computer Forensics, Animation, Game Design or Acting for Stage and Screen. A pleasing number of students have chosen to become teachers and we have been delighted (and very proud) to welcome former students into our teaching staff.

Some decide that an apprenticeship route is best, with students undertaking Software Development and Cybersecurity with Amazon, joining Financial Advisors, the Marks & Spencer Management Scheme or the Royal Air Force.

Our mission is to educate the whole person, ensuring that when they leave us, our students have the academic qualifications, skills, confidence and motivation to secure their own pathway to very bright futures.
