Drama

Drama gives children the opportunity to explore and the freedom to imagine. Drama at LCS is about producing a learning environment where pupils can explore the world and their relationship to it, develop their self-awareness and understand others through fictional contexts. We use drama to help pupils develop on a social, moral, linguistic and creative level. The majority of this work is carried out in lessons where drama is used as a learning medium and the work is part of an ongoing experience, not intended for public display. However, some of the work involves developing stagecraft skills so that dramatic productions can be polished, rehearsed and presented to a larger, formal audience using school facilities and professional venues.

Curriculum drama

Curriculum drama, from early years to Year 9, gives children opportunities to discuss and deal with difficult issues and express their emotions in a supportive environment. It enables them to explore their own cultural values and those of others, past and present. It encourages them to think and act creatively, thus developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills that can be applied in all areas of learning. Through drama, children are encouraged to take responsible roles and make choices - to participate in and guide their own learning. Teachers can take a more open-ended approach, concentrating on the process of learning at least as much as, if not more than, the product.

Senior students can continue their study via GCSE Drama or A Level Drama & Theatre.
