Students develop their musical knowledge, understanding and skills using digital music applications, particularly Logic Pro X and Cubase Artist 12. Students learn to make close mic recordings and compose using technology, as well as developing listening, analysing and producing skills.

Students are encouraged to engage with a wide range of music technology techniques and develop an understanding of the historical and cultural contexts of the use of music technology in the creation and production of music.

We offer practical qualifications in Years 10-11 and Sixth Form and co-curricular clubs, giving students the opportunity to develop their personal potential and acquire a wide range of applied skills which will support further study or entry into employment in relevant industries.

Students learn to:

  • understand the principles of sound and audio technology and how they are used in creative and professional practice;
  • develop recording skills, including how to manipulate sound in imaginative and creative ways;
  • make links between the integrated activities of recording, processing, mixing, sound creation and creative music technology applications, underpinned by analytical listening;
  • understand the history and traditions of the sonic and musical applications of technology and how they promote personal, social, intellectual and cultural development.

Alongside the academic programme, students benefit from insights from industry professionals and former LCS students who are currently studying undergraduate courses in music technology, sound engineering and music production, and those now employed within the music industry.

After Sixth Form, students progress to studying music technology at degree level, opening up careers such as professional music technician, TV and radio engineering, journalism, arts administration, teaching, promotion and marketing.
