Residential & Overseas Opportunities

A local and global perspective is an important element in developing the pupils at Lichfield Cathedral School. High quality trips and expeditions add great value to a pupil’s time and have been part of life at the School for many years. All pupils have access to a rich variety of both residential and day trips as well as pupil exchanges, overseas expeditions and cultural immersion opportunities. Many are directly linked to the curriculum, but the benefits to pupils go far beyond the purely academic.

In the summer term, Year 3 enjoy a residential visit to Ilam Hall in Derbyshire, while Year 6 have visited outdoor activity centres to learn through adventure and undertaken residential trips to London. Year 7 start secondary school with a team-building trip to York, where the emphasis is on building new friendships. Year 9 develop new skills and often surprise themselves during outward bound activities in Dearne Valley. GCSE and A Level biologists, physicists and geographers undertake residential trips to complete fieldwork and enrich their studies.

Each year a series of optional residential trips are available to pupils from Year 7 upwards, such as a ski trip to Europe; Language visits and exchanges along with History trips to France, Germany and Spain; plus performance opportunities via Orchestra, Music and Drama Tours which are often combined with the chance to enhance the study of Art.

Senior students can complete expeditions through the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, or opt to travel abroad on a World Challenge, combining adventurous expeditions with global citizenship and the chance to improve the lives of others by building homes and schools and supporting environmental conservation.

We are building partnerships with several overseas schools and are active participants in the Global Schools Alliance, enabling LCS students to connect online with students from across the world and to collaborate on joint projects.
