English Schools National Cross Country Championships
On the back of the ISA National Cross-Country Championships, Freya (Year 8) was selected to represent the Staffordshire Schools County Cross-Country team. On Friday 14 March, Freya travelled down to Ardingly in West Sussex with the rest of the team, ready to prepare for the race the following day. This was an excellent experience for Freya, travelling and staying with other talented runners, and the atmosphere amongst the group was really positive.
Freya was once again competing against runners who were a year older than her and some of them had experienced the English Schools Championships before. There were over 330 runners just in Freya’s race and the course was a tricky one, as it was quite narrow in places with some tough hills. Freya ran a really determined race and although she was disappointed with how the race went, she really enjoyed the whole weekend and gained a huge amount of experience as she finished what has been a brilliant season for her. I’m sure she will be aiming to qualify for the English Schools Championships again next winter and the experience she has gained this year will really help her.
Well done, Freya for a fantastic cross-country season.
