Erin's paramedic training begins

Erin (Year 8) is fascinated by paramedic sciences and has decided for her future career she wants to become a paramedic and then progress to a consultant paramedic position.  She has always been very empathetic and caring to animals, the environment and people, and when watching an A&E paramedic programme, what she observed connected with Erin’s values and she said to me, ‘That’s what I want to do, I want to help people.’

As an early birthday present, I offered Erin a first aid course to get some exposure to what kind of scenarios she may be presented with and to see how she managed the idea of such serious medical events.

She enthusiastically accepted the training course offer and even woke up at 5:30am during the holidays to travel 3 hours to South London for a 9:30am start.  Erin completed the course and was highly commended by the trainer who was ex medical military personnel.

I am happy to say she is now a First Aider and is even more determined to follow her career aspirations. She finished the training so energised and full of knowledge.  The course covered all aspects of first aid, including CPR in adults and babies, the use of a defibrillator, anaphylaxis and auto injectors, seizure, recover position, risk assessment, fractures and much more.

We then finished the day at London Zoo, which was amazing!
