Flood defence competition
In the after-school Science Club, Year 7 and 8 pupils have entered the Independent Schools Association's national STEAM competition to design a flood-proof house.
Initially, the pupils researched flooding and its impact, and house construction to determine the best methods for constructing a flood-proof structure.
In the next stage, they created prototype drawings based on the research, then built prototype models of their designs. Finally, the pupils assessed each prototype, choosing one design that was their favourite based on the design elements that would make it flood-proof - the fact that it was raised above ground level and had a very sturdy structure.
The outcome of the competition will be released in March, so keep your fingers crossed!
