IS National Athletics Championships

On Monday 17 June, eight LCS students took part in the ISA National Athletics Championships. This is on the back of their brilliant performances at the Midlands event and they were selected to represent the Midlands team.  This was a fantastic event, which was hosted at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. Last year LCS had three athletes that qualified, so it was brilliant to beat that total and take eight to this year’s Championships.

All the pupils did exceptionally well to cope with the pressure and perform the way they did. To compete at a National schools event is an exceptional achievement.

Otto (Year 10) ran a brave race in the 400m, but was narrowly pushed out of the medals, finishing in an excellent fourth place.  Emilia (Year 5) finished in a fantastic sixth place out of fourteen runners in the 600m.  Freya (Year 7) also finished in a brilliant sixth place out of fourteen runners and was also rewarded with a new 1500m personal best time.

Alfie (Year 10) took home the silver medal in the javelin competition and finished only a couple of metres behind the winner.

Four other pupils took part in the competition: Henry (100m and Relay), Alex  (800m), Thomas (1500m) and Miles (100m and Relay).  Well done to all the pupils who qualified and competed.
