ISA National Cross-Country Championships
On Sunday 9 March, the Independent Schools Association National Cross-Country Championships were hosted at Mallory Park, in Leicestershire. You may remember that LCS took a team to the ISA Midlands Championships earlier in the year and two pupils qualified for the National finals. Emilia (Year 6) and Freya (Year 8) both qualified in their respective age groups and had the chance to run for the Midlands Independent Schools team. Both were quite nervous about the finals, but were looking to do the best they could in a very competitive contest.
Emilia was up first in the Year 5 and 6 girls' race. Emilia is a very determined and competitive runner, who never wants to back down from a challenge and will always try and finish as high up in the race as possible. Emilia ran the course really well and was rewarded with a 14th place finish (and 4th overall for the Midlands). This is certainly impressive considering this isn’t Emilia’s main sport.
Freya was up next and was competing in the Year 8 and 9 girls' race. Freya trains and competes for Tamworth AC and has had a very successful year. Freya is more of a steady runner and paces her races well - as others tire, she will just keep a lovely, consistent pace, picking runners off in the final stages. Freya finished the race in 23rd position, which was fantastic considering she was racing against pupils a year older than her.
Well done both of you. You represented the school brilliantly.
