Inter-County Cross-Country
On Saturday 16 November, three Lichfield Cathedral School pupils competed for the Staffordshire Schools County Cross-Country team at an inter-counties event. The competition took place at Himley Hall and included eight county teams, including West Midlands, Cheshire and Surrey as well as Staffordshire. It was a high-quality event which saw 80 of the country's best cross-country runners compete against each other. Four LCS pupils qualified to represent Staffordshire, with three of them competing on the day.
Freya A (Year 8) competed in the Year 8/9 girls category and ran a very strong race, helping her team finish in 3rd place. Freya trains and competes for Tamworth Athletics Club and has seen significant improvements over the past year.
Imogen K (Year 11) competed in the Year 10/11 girls category and also ran a very strong race, helping her team finish in 2nd place. Imogen has always enjoyed running and cross-country and within the last year has started training and competing for Cannock and Stafford Athletics Club. The extra training has certainly helped her make the county team for this event.
Josh I (Year 11) has only just started training and competing for a club and has recently joined Tamworth Athletics Club as well. On Saturday, he competed well in the Year 10/11 boys category and helped his team finish in 4th place.
Otto H (Y11) was also selected for the event but, unfortunately, was unable to take part on the day due to injury. Otto also regularly trains and competes for Cannock and Stafford Athletics Club and has enjoyed the cross-country races this season.
It's great to see four of our pupils gain selection for the county team and run so strongly, on what was a tough course and they all should be proud of their efforts. All four of these pupils (as well as many others at LCS) will have the opportunity to compete at the Staffordshire Schools County Cross-Country Championships in February 2025 and we look forward to seeing how they get on.
