Remembrance 2024
This week we have much pause for thought. Firstly, as we commemorated Remembrance in the Cathedral with a service on Monday, then yesterday in Head’s assembly, where Mrs Hall and Sebbie spoke to us about acts of kindness and their charitable kindness foundation as part of World Kindness Day. It is also Anti-Bullying Week and in the spirit of LCS we have found time and space to consider all of these important events.
Among the ways in which Remembrance was observed, discussed and understood, Year 6 Forest School pupils created poppy art using the leaves on the Palace lawn and the children at Longdon came together for a 2-minute silence at 11am.
Our Remembrance service is an important part of the School calendar when we take time to stop and remember all of those who have sacrificed for us. We have many families in School who work, or previously worked, in the armed forces and we recognise the importance of their contribution to our security and way of life. It is truly humbling to observe hundreds of our parents in respectful silence at this service and we are grateful for the support of the Dean of the Cathedral and Canons Stead and Platten for their unwavering support of our worshipping life.
The prayer below was read by the heads of school to conclude our assembly on Wednesday:
Let us pray ...
Thank you Lord for all those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of ourselves and others. Let us not forget their selflessness or the thanks we owe them. We express our gratitude through remembrance and pray for peace in the world. Let us live as peaceful people of God.
In Jesus name,
Amen
