Sports Awards Dinners

The PE department hosted their Sports Awards Evenings at Lichfield Sports Club this month. These wonderful events provide an opportunity for our pupils to reflect on their achievements from the 2023-2024 academic year and there were many amazing achievements, which were rightfully celebrated with the awarding of Full and Half Sports Colours

We were delighted to welcome two fantastic guest speakers, who provided wonderful advice to our pupils, which I'm sure they will take forward into this year and beyond. Laura Sugar MBE was the guest speaker for the senior awards evening, and it was fascinating to hear about her path in para-canoeing and how she was able to achieve back-to-back Olympic gold medals. Her message to the pupils was to 'say yes' to any opportunity that comes your way, as you never know where it will lead and what you might uncover.

For our junior awards evening, we welcomed Sarah-Jane Perry as our guest speaker. Sarah shared her journey into squash and how she became a three-time Commonwealth Games medalist and multiple World Champion. It was great to hear from a local athlete, who started playing squash in Four Oaks and even attended the same primary school as some of our pupils. Her main message to the students was to make sure they do something they enjoy, whether that be sport or anything else in life. If you enjoy what you do, then you are more likely to be motivated to work harder and achieve great things.

Both of our speakers have competed at the highest level for several years and continue to do so. It was amazing that they were willing to come and share their stories with us. We would like to thank both Sarah-Jane Perry and Laura Sugar for speaking to our pupils about their experiences and we wish them both the best of luck with their sporting endeavours.

We would also like to thank the catering team at LCS for providing food for both evenings and also Lichfield Sports Club for allowing us to host our awards evenings with them.  Finally, the PE department are grateful to the parents/carers of our students for their continued support and their contribution towards their achievements last year. We look forward to 2025 and hope for lots more success in the months to come.
