Supporting Midland Air Ambulance
The Midland Air Ambulance visited our Year 3 children in July at Longdon, and brought along Blade, their mascot. They learned about the Children’s Air Ambulance helicopters that provide a flying intensive care unit for babies and children that need to receive urgent care or be transported safely to a specialist treatment centre.
The pupils had donated a huge amount of clothing that the Air Ambulance team will use for fundraising. In 2023, the Air Ambulance completed 4,003 missions in 17 counties. Each life-saving mission is 4 x faster than transport by road and costs £3,600.
The Air Ambulance does not receive funding from the government or National Lottery for its daily missions and relies entirely on voluntary donations and support from communities and business.
During the assembly, the pupils learned about a free-to-join children’s club called #TheCrew where children can learn about saving lives, helicopters, medicine, fundraising and how a charity works. The club offers advice and teaching on community work, volunteering, working as part of a team and supporting good causes. Members get to go to special events where they can see the helicopters, meet the pilots, doctors and paramedics.
