U11 Football success

On Monday 7 October, the U11 Football team took part in a School Games Football Tournament for schools in the Lichfield and Burntwood area. The tournament was very well attended, with four groups of three teams taking part.

LCS faced Ridgeway Tigers and Holly Grove Dolphins in the group stages and were hoping to qualify for the quarter finals.

Group game 1: Holly Grove Dolphins 0-0 LCS. A dominant display from LCS to start the tournament but, unfortunately, they were unable to get the goal they needed to win the game. Matches were 8 minutes long, which didn’t give much time to secure a win. Henry R was extremely close in the final moments, hitting the bar from a great shot.

Group game 2: Ridgeway Tigers 1-2 LCS. A brother/sister double saw LCS get their first win of the tournament. Frankie F put LCS one up with a great finish and even better celebration, before brother Harry F put LCS back in front, after an equaliser from Ridgeway.  LCS progressed through to the quarter finals as group winners.

Quarter final: Highfields 0-1 LCS.  A single goal from Daniel Z was enough see LCS progress through to the semi-finals.  A tough battle against Highfields, which included some good defending from Lenny W. Overall, LCS was the better team and deserved to go through.

Semi-final: Ridgeway Pumas 0-2 LCS.  Another clean sheet, another solid performance and another win, saw LCS finish unbeaten in the tournament. A first goal of the tournament for Henry R put LCS one up, before Daniel Z secured the win with his second of the tournament.

A fantastic attitude from all of the players was the most pleasing aspect of the afternoon and the respect they showed to each team they played was amazing.  It made it even better that they were able to go unbeaten throughout the whole tournament and therefore qualify for ‘Finals Night’, which will be taking place in the next few weeks.
