U15 Rugby 7s
Last Tuesday, the U15 Rugby 7s team travelled to St Joseph’s College, Stoke, for the annual 7s tournament. With a glorious day weather wise, the team were looking for an improvement having finished winners of the Plate section last year.
First up for the boys was the team from St Joseph’s College. A slow and messy start from LCS meant that they had very little possession and quickly found themselves 0-10 down. However, the tide soon turned and LCS were clinical taking their two chances, with two scores from Benjamin, 10-10, game on! As the match entered the second half, St Joseph's snuck ahead 10-15. Some good rugby from both teams was on display for the remaining minutes, but LCS were unable to break the line until a storming run by Adam down the wing. However, his legs were unable to make the full distance before a St Joseph's player tackled him into touch 2 metres out. Final score 10-15.
Next up were Trentham Academy. A much improved and more clinical performance from LCS saw them take a strong early lead 15-0 with tries from Samuel and two from Benjamin. Trentham responded with two tries of their own, following a few defensive errors by LCS. However, Benjamin was able to extend LCS’ lead and provided some breathing space, giving LCS a 20-10 win.
The final group game saw LCS move on to a much smaller pitch vs Thomas Alleyne’s. LCS struggled to adapt to the reduction in space and a more physical game. Despite tries from Samuel and Benjamin, LCS lost 10-25.
Group stages over and finishing third in the group meant that LCS entered the Bowl competition, a stage better than last year!
The semi-final against Biddulph was key for LCS to win. The boys knew they had the potential to win the Bowl, but needed to deliver. The time for chat was over and a performance was needed, and so it came!
From the offset LCS dominated, with a fast tempo, strong carries and some good 7s play that Biddulph struggled to handle. A hattrick from Benjamin, a brace from Samuel, and tries from Devan and Louis saw LCS 35-10 winners. Into the Bowl final they went.
The final was against Alleyne’s Academy, who had beaten Sir Graham Balfour in their semi-final.
LCS were clinical and ruthless in the first half taking a 25-0 lead, Benjamin, Samuel, Adam, Louis and Devan all scoring. But Alleyne’s came out to the second half as a different outfit. Some strong and direct carries saw them cross the try line multiple times as they fought back 25-20. LCS needed to respond, but thankfully time was on their side and the game finished 25-20 - LCS Staffordshire 7s Bowl winners 2025!
Well done all! A great day of rugby!
